Use Newton's thought experiment on the motion of satellites to solve the following. (Assume a circular orbit for all calculations.)

(a) Calculate the speed that a satellite shot from a cannon must have in order to orbit Earth 150 km above its surface.

(b) How long, in seconds and minutes, would it take for the satellite to complete one orbit and return to the cannon?Use Newton's thought experiment on the motion of satellites to solve the following. (Assume a circular orbit f?F=mv^2/r

F=mMG/r^2

mv^2/r=mMG/r^2

v=root(MG/r) where M is the mass of earth, G is the gravitational constant and r is 150km

distance=2 Pi R

speed (as above)

speed/distance=time
