Do you think its bad to have the same service motion as a pro?

I almost never serve because I play up to 15 instead of sets, but I've been experimenting with different kinds of service motions.

What I've been doing is starting out on my back foot, dropping my tossing arm and then doing a full motion with my right arm. Its worked ok, but the ryhthm feels a little funny.

I was watching a match I recorded with Todd Martin and the commentator mentioned that he has a very smooth motion and if you were to teach someone to serve you should model it after Todd's motion.

I've tried it a few times and the rhythm feels better. Before I get to used to it I was wondering if people that recognize it will think its funny I copied a pros motion instead of figuring out my own.

I'm also afraid it will unintentionally look like a parody of his serve.Do you think its bad to have the same service motion as a pro?I would absolutely support you on this. I think emmulating most pros is fine unless they're known for having an unorthodoxed motion (i.e., Andy Roddick's or John McEnroe's serve).

Todd's serve is certainly a good one to emulate as is Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Stefan Edberg.

My service is a bit like a left-handed Boris Becker in that I tend to rock my shoulders a little prior to my toss. It's probably not the most fundamentally sound way to a consistant toss (admittedly) but it helps me with my rhythm and timing when I serve. Hey, whatever works right?

Oh, and trust me, if you learn to serve like Todd Martin, your opponents won't be paying attention to your form, they'll be sweating which side the ace is going to!

Good luck and keep practicing!

Keep your eye on the ball!Do you think its bad to have the same service motion as a pro?Whatever works best for you, i don't think many people will be able to recognise it.Do you think its bad to have the same service motion as a pro?Sure not. I am with you in the way to learn serve by immitating pro's motion. As long as you find it works for you, it really doesn't matter if someone regard your serve as parody. I don't mind if I were ridiculed for being Roddick, if my serve could be as fast as 140mph. So, keep "assimilate" from pro and serve it big.Do you think its bad to have the same service motion as a pro?
how could it possibly be bad to emulate a great server when trying to learn how to serve?
