Is there any sort of program that you can run with your camera connected to the computer, and have each photo as it is taken, placed in the animation?
What i'm basically saying, is that I want to make stop-motion animations but I don't know where to start. What is the first step in stop-motion animation? There are some free ones out there. But you need to use a camcorder or webcam to be able to use them. Digital cameras can't be used in tandem with stop motion software because they go into a generic hard drive mode when plugged into a computer, and stop providing a live video feed.
If you only have a digital camera, you can simply do like %26lt;:)))%26gt;%26lt; suggested and just take pictures with your digital camera and then import them into a stop motion program to turn them into an animated video.
To actually frame-grab and compile the movie, I'd suggest using Monkeyjam if you're on a PC. It's free.

AnimatorDV: Simple+ became freeware.

If you're on a Mac, you could try Framethief or FramebyFrame.

You can also check out this website for other stop motion animation programs; some free, some retail. I haven't used any of them (other than Stop Motion Pro) so I couldn't tell you if the rest of their features were any good or not, but at least it gives you other options.

What is the first step in stop-motion animation?I would use something like Nero Vision or Windows Movie Maker. Adobe Primere if you can get it...Save each image with it's order numbered (i.e. Picture 001, Picture 002...) and then drop each photo in to a video editing software such as the above mentioned two...
