Why is track motion in After Effects so imprecise?

I'm trying to "stick" text to footage of a wall as I track past it using track motion. The tracker seems to work perfectly and I always use it on areas of high contrast, yet somehow my text layer that I apply the track to moves around with an error margin of 7 or so pixels. Is there anything I can do to make the tracking more smooth?

Note - no panning/rotation/scaling is involved in the shot, so tracking should be relatively easy. Why is track motion in After Effects so imprecise?I would either do the problematic frames by hand or get a better 3rd party tracking tool. Mocha, the new motion tracking software that comes with After Effects CS4 works much better and is for the most part automatic.

Alternatively, you can make a copy of your footage and color correct it so the saturation and contract are extremely exaggerated, then try tracking again. After you're done, toss the duplicated footage and keep the tracking data.

To answer your second question, you can try using The Smoother tool. Go to Window %26gt; The Smoother. Select the position data on your null or where ever you put your tracking data. With the position data selected, click apply and it will smooth position data.
