Will I have to overcome my motion sickness to become a pilot?

Hi, I want to become a commercial pilot when I'm older. I have a moderate case of motion sickness, will I have to overcome this to become a pilot? Is there anyway to overcome it? Would I have to take pills?Will I have to overcome my motion sickness to become a pilot?You'll have to overcome it during training. But one would get more motion sickness if they were a passenger as opposed to a pilot... It occurs when your inner ear fluid starts moving around but your eyes and other senses don't detect movement. As you get pilot seat time, motion sickness starts to fade away and your body gets used to flying since you usually have a good look at the ground moving relative to your body.



...But I'm sure you can get over it as you get older and fly more. If you're 16 or older find a flight school and ask them for an Introductory Flight. It costs a hundred dollars and they let you sit in the pilots seat of a small plane as an instructor sits next to you and tells you what to do, your first flight is always a very enlightening experience. You'll be able to see just how bad you have it and you can ask your instructor what you can do for it.

Yes, you'll have to overcome it if you want to be a commercial pilot. You can't fly if you're sick.



Fortunately, you can overcome it with practice alone. The more you fly in situations that make you sick, the less sick you'll become, until the motion sickness disappears completely. It can take several years to get completely used to it, and you have to continue flying regularly or the motion sickness might return. No drugs are required (and none are allowed for pilots by the FAA).



Quite a few pilots feel sick when they first start out in flight training. It gradually wears off for most of them. just a fact though, normally, it is rare for the operator of a vehicle to have motion sickness. it is caused when you experience unexpected movement. i get travel sick in a car sometimes, because if im not in the front seat and there is an unexpected bend or the driver brakes unexpectedly (throughout a journey) i start to feel sick, however, when i drive, because i know if there is a rough road, or a bend or i need to brake, my mind is prepared for it. so as a commander of a plane, you may know when you will enter turbulence, when you turn, etc, so if your mind is prepared, then you wont feel sick. just to be on the safe side, before you fly, go on a full stomach of dry food so there is no liquidy food slushing around in your belly.



do some trial flying lessons. if they go well, then by all means continue flying.



also, try using non medicinal remedies, like those little wristbands with the plastic on them. they gently push your pressure points that apparantly stop motion sickness. ive only tried them once, but i didnt get motion sickness (this was on a coach by the way : ) )Will I have to overcome my motion sickness to become a pilot?
