That means that the force is proportional to the one over the distance squared (1/ r^2). Without any thing else to influence the orbits except a gravity force from a central object (the sun), the orbits will be a conic section (parabola, circle, ellipse, or hyperbola).

None of these ellipses are perfect ellipses, influenced as they are by other moving bodies from the size of dust particles to the size of moons. Similarly no one individual is perfect, each one of us has many defects. God is physics. ALL orbits are conic sections. Only circles and ellipses are closed conic sections. The eccentricities of planetary orbits vary over time cyclically between more circular with lower eccentricities and more elliptical orbits with higher eccentricities, including the high eccentricity orbits of repeating comets. I agree, God made the Universe, and God does not need a Creator. As I understand it, in an orbit not only do the usual laws of motion apply ie each position and velocity must lead to the next position and velocity, in addition, the attractive effect of gravity is in overall balance with outward effect of the fictitious centrifugal force. The only general solution to balance all these things is an ellipse. So by your logic, because the answer to 2 + 2 is always 4 and never any other number, this proves the existence of a creator? Ellipses are the result of similar mathematical equations. The reason way its always an ellipse is the same reason why 2+ 2 is always 4. Well, YES, God made the universe. No, He usually doesn't give an explanation as to why He made things a certain way. Someday, remember this question, and maybe you'll have the chance to ask Him for yourself. I already have a list of questions. Will I remember them all, probably not.
Because that's how gravity works. Gravity dissipates in three dimensions, which means its strength decreases by the square of the distance, leading to elliptical orbits. If the Universe were two-dimensional or four-dimensional, gravity would dissipate differently and orbits would have other shapes.



In fact, it is theorized that our universe does have more dimensions, it's just that the others are wrapped up on extremely small scales so we don't notice them. This would imply that gravity dissipates differently on extremely small scales, meaning that extremely small orbits would have different shapes than planetary orbits do.
